What is acupuncture?

AcupunctureAcupuncture is an ancient Chinese Medicine used to regulate and restore the balance of the body in order to assist and accelerate the healing process.  It is based on traditional Chinese theories; the flow of qi (energy) and xue (blood) through meridians or pathways that cover the body, somewhat like nerves and blood vessels.  According to this theory, when one or more of these pathways is blocked, illness pursues… or when there is an imbalance of energy, illness follows.

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points shown to be effective in the treatment of many health conditions.  The Chinese have recorded these points over a period of two thousand years.  In recent times, many scientific studies have established the validity of acupuncture. The National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO) acknowledge that acupuncture treatment can effectively treat a wide array of acute and chronic conditions.  Furthermore, acupuncture is known to provide quality effective healthcare that results in a healthier well being.

How can acupuncture help my fertility?

Acupuncture has proven effectiveness in assisting women and men to be successful with their fertility.  In women, research has shown acupuncture can be used to increase blood flow to the ovaries and uterus, regulate hormones, increase blood flow throughout the body and reduce stress. This allows the body to decrease cortisol levels and improve the endometrial lining and egg quality.  There are also several studies published in the journal Fertility and Sterility that validate how acupuncture can improve pregnancy rates and take home babies when combined with IVF.  In men, scientific studies have shown acupuncture can increase sperm count and motility.

Our practitioners specialize in reproductive Oriental medicine. As Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners, we will look at your body as a whole.

Acupuncture and Oriental medicine offers several modalities that play an integral part in treating the patient and that complement the acupuncture treatment.
