What is Acupuncture ? |
Acupuncture is an ancient Chinese Medicine used to regulate and
restore the balance of the body in order to assist and accelerate
the healing process. It is based on traditional Chinese theories;
the flow of Qi (energy) and Xue (blood) through meridians or
pathways that cover the body somewhat like nerves and blood vessels.
According to this theory when one or more of these pathways are
blocked, illness pursues… or when there is an imbalance of energy,
illness follows.
Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at
specific points shown as effective in the treatment of many health
conditions. These points have been recorded by the Chinese over a
period of two thousand years. Recently, electromagnetic research has
confirmed their locations.

Acupuncture and Moxibustion to Correct Breech Babies
Acupuncture, in
conjunction with moxibustion, is one option offered to women
with breech presentation. Moxibustion is a traditional
Chinese method of treatment, which utilizes heat generated
from burning Atemisia vugaris ormugwort, an herb, to
stimulate specific acupuncture points. This method has
been used for breech presentation with a reported success
rate of 84.6%. The optimal time to consider this form
of treatment is between 34 and 36 weeks. It is
possible for the procedure to work shortly after the 36-week
period. Yet, if one waits too long there is no room
left for the baby to move.
Acupuncture and
moxibustion are safe, simple and well tolerated techniques.
Results can occur as soon as day of treatment, and up to
five days afterwards. If the baby has not rotated by then,
please
speak to your health care practioner, and they can assist you in
other options.
Acupuncture and High Blood
Pressure
Acupuncture has been
shown to regulate high blood pressure. Studies show
acupuncture lowers blood pressure by inhibiting the
sympathetic nervous system and regulating the whole body.
Advantages of treating
hypertension with acupuncture:
-
Reduces blood
pressure
-
Relaxation
-
Mild form of
treatment
-
Minimal side
effects
Elevated blood
pressure can be treated with regular acupuncture and
electro-acupuncture. Blood pressure is taken before
and after treatment. Results are usually seen
immediately after the session. Acupuncture has a cumulative
effect; after each treatment the results last longer.
The protocol for each treatment may vary depending on the
patient.
Acupuncture is known
to have exceptional results, however they may vary depending
on individual response. (It is important to remember
electricity should NOT be used during pregnancy.)
Other condition
acupuncture can treat:
Migraines/Headaches
Neck
and Back Pain Nausea Stress
Are Acupuncture
needles Safe?
