Hot Flashes and Night Sweats
Hot Flashes and Night Sweats can occur during perimenopause or menopause.
As many as 85% of women will experience hot flashes during menopause, some more severely than others. The abrupt withdrawal of estrogen can produce an increase of blood flow which causes a sudden sensation of warmth throughout the body, often followed by chills. This can be physically draining, uncomfortable and embarrassing if they occur in social situations.
Night Sweats - similar to hot flashes, occur during sleep and cause sleep disturbance. Many women report the need to get up, change night clothes and bed linens before being able to fall back to sleep.
Studies have shown that acupuncture and/or herbal remedies reduce or completely eliminate hot flashes and night sweats.
